How to add a playlist in SmartMate
Add your own M3U link or Xtream Codes login to SmartMate in a few steps, and what to check if the playlist does not load.

This guide shows how to add your own playlist to SmartMate. SmartMate is a media player. It does not provide or sell any content, so you need a playlist from a provider you have the right to use.
Menu names can differ slightly between devices and app versions. The steps below describe what to do rather than the exact label of each button.
Before you start
You need two things:
- SmartMate on a supported device. Android phone and tablet and iPhone and iPad are available. Android TV is in beta. Fire TV, Apple TV and Mac are coming soon, so there is nothing to install there yet. See Devices.
- Your playlist details. These are either an M3U link or Xtream Codes details (server address, username and password). Not sure which you have? Read M3U vs Xtream Codes.
Step 1: Open SmartMate and start a new playlist
Open the app and choose the option to add a playlist. On a first launch, the app will normally lead you there because there is nothing to show yet.
Step 2: Choose the playlist type
Pick the type that matches what your provider gave you:
- M3U link if you have one web address.
- Xtream Codes if you have a server address, username and password.
Step 3: Enter your details
For an M3U link
- Copy the full link from your provider, starting with
http://orhttps://. - Paste it into the link field. Check that nothing was cut off at either end.
For Xtream Codes
- Enter the server address exactly as given, including
http://orhttps://and the port if there is one, for examplehttp://example.com:8080. - Enter the username and password. Type them carefully, because they are case sensitive.
Step 4: Save and wait for it to load
Save the playlist. SmartMate downloads and organises it. A playlist with tens of thousands of entries takes longer than a small one, especially on a slow connection, so give it a moment before assuming something is wrong.
When it finishes you can browse live TV, movies and series. If your provider supplies a program guide, it appears alongside the channels.
Step 5: Tidy up (optional)
- Hide categories you never open, so large playlists feel smaller.
- Set a PIN to lock categories that should stay private.
- Choose subtitles from the tracks a stream provides while you watch.
If the playlist does not load
Work through this list in order:
- Test the link in a web browser. An M3U link should return a text file starting with
#EXTM3U. If it does not, ask your provider for a new link. - Check the Xtream details for typos, a missing
http://orhttps://, or a missing port. - Confirm your subscription is active with your provider. An expired account will not load.
- Check your connection, then try again.
- Try the other method (M3U or Xtream Codes) if your provider offers both.
- Contact your provider if channels are missing or streams fail. They control the content.
